Hemphill Lions Annual Talent Show
Since 1994, the Hemphill Lions Club has held this truly
entertaining event. Local talent of all ages are encouraged
to compete and present their talent of any kind and the show
has featured acts ranging from comedy to poetry reading and
drama to dance to instrumental and vocal performances.
Showcase performances feature local talent that has placed
out of competition through past wins, or professional
development. Join the club each March for this wonderful
event!
Hemphill Lions Club Haunted House
For most of the year, the lonely little house on Barber
Street stands in solitude and uninhabited . . . we think . .
. but close to October 31 the house comes alive, or rather,
goes dead with the sights, sounds, and spookiness of the
unknown. An indoor trail through the house filled with
famous vignettes of scariness is capped off with an outdoor
trail of horror. This annual fund raiser that supports Lions
Club activities in the community is a hit every year with
thrill seekers of all ages and continues to grow with each
new season.
Hemphill Lions Club Christmas Parade and Lighting of the
Cedar Tree
The season wouldn't be complete without this annual event
featuring local groups, organizations, marching bands, and
of course, the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus on the first
Saturday of December. After winding through the main streets
of Hemphill the procession ends at the courthouse square
where you'll be further entertained by local childrens
choirs and a Christmas prayer. Santa and Mrs. Claus are on
hand for photos and the event culminates with the lighting
of the famous Cedar Tree on the Square.
Sabine County Expo & Deerfest
Established in 1998 as the East Texas Deerfest, this event
is segueing into the Sabine County Expo & Deerfest for 2009.
A celebration of the fall season in East Texas and all
things outdoors is what you'll find at this Chamber event.
Sporting activities including target shooting with black
powder guns and bow/arrow, as well as bb guns for the kids,
and even a 4-wheel mud bog are activities that have been
featured in past years. This year promises to be bigger and
better with even more activities for people of all ages!
